How to maintain a healthy diet when out on corporate travel. Make healthy food choices for corporate business dinners and pack nutritious snacks.

Eating healthy while traveling on corporate business can be tricky. Between networking receptions, business dinners and jam packed days, many business travelers find it difficult to eat right. Following are some tips for how to maintain healthy eating habits while traveling on business.

Corporate Travel Business Dinners

Many corporate travel trips include dinners out, such as for entertaining clients or for meeting with customers. For corporate dinners, consider lighter fare instead of heavy meals, such as tapas or fresh fish or other seafood. In addition, for business travelers who can choose where and when to meet with clients or customers, think about arranging a meeting for drinks or coffee instead of a meal. Both the waistline and corporate expense reports will be spared.

Healthy Snacks for Business Travelers

Business travelers should think about incorporating healthy snacks into their day, rather than indulging in the dessert buffet or greasy appetizers. A piece of fruit, some nuts, or a fruit filled smoothie or protein shake can provide fulfillment without all the extra calories or fat. Pack fruit and healthy snacks in carry on or packed luggage to eat instead of unhealthy foods.

Stay Healthy By Drinking Lots of Water

Frequent business travelers know how dehydrating travel can be, not only to the body but to the skin as well. Drink several glasses of water per day to stay hydrated, as well as to keep energy levels up and to prevent unhealthy eating.

Choose Healthy Foods When Dining Out

Many times, business conventions or meetings include receptions with buffets or food stations. Before filling a plate with whatever looks good or is most convenient, take a look around at the options. Then, make a decision to eat healthy foods. Instead of fried shrimp or pastas with heavy sauces, opt for healthier choices, such as unbreaded chicken breasts, salads or vegetables with little or no sauce, and fresh fruits and vegetables. In addition, don't fill up on bread- if you must have some grains, select whole grains and avoid using butter.

For dessert, opt for fresh fruit instead of heavy cheese cake, cakes or other temptations. For those travelers who can't resist the call of the chocolate, take just a few bites and then push the plate away.

Business travel can bring on a bevy of eating challenges; try to select foods wisely to maintain a healthy diet while on corporate business.
