Packing for a business trip doesn't have to be a headache. By planning ahead based on the number of days in the trip, both the traveler and his luggage can safely arrive at the destination- unwrinkled and unstressed.
How Long Will the Corporate Travel Trip Last?
Before beginning to pack, consider how long the trip will last. Is it for a convention or trade show, a series of meetings or sales calls, or a plant visit? Determine what the dress code for the event will be and pack accordingly. In addition, check the average weather and climate for the destination and follow suit with garments. For example, save the wool suits for winter in the North, and pack linen or light weight garments when traveling south. In addition, include an extra dress shirt and tie to be prepared for a spill or accident.
Lay Out Travel Clothes Before Packing Luggage
Once it has been determined what will likely be packed, place all items down in one place to survey them prior to packing. Will there be enough suits or shirts and ties for each day of the corporate event? Remember that, in many cases, the same suit can be paired with a different colored dress shirt or tie to create a new look.
What's more, travelers should think about what they will wear while on the road to or from the destination. Consider wearing garments that might be difficult to pack or more likely to wrinkle, as well as heavy or large shoes that will take up more space in luggage.
Pack Wrinkle-free Shirts
Shoes and other heavy items, such as toiletries, should be placed inside the the suitcase on opposite sides to balance the weight. Make sure to take advantage of all available space in the suitcase by tucking socks or underwear inside shoes to save space. Shirts, ties and other garments should be tightly rolled and tucked inside luggage toward the center of the suitcase, and any remaining space can be filled with smaller items.
Don't Forget Business Cards, Other Corporate Travel Essentials
One of the most important items to pack is business cards; consider keeping a zip top bag of business cards inside a suitcase at all times so that they will always be packed. In addition, pack any relevant notes, printouts, directions or other paperwork for the trip inside the suitcase or carry on bag. Proper identification and boarding passes or reservation confirmations should be placed in an outside pocket for easy access.
Successful business travel requires thoughtful packing; follow these tips to make the most of suitcase space and ensure that the essentials are packed.
